This exhibition is the ability for an instant touch to the history: to see how our ancestors lived, what they used in their everyday life and how they entertained themselves.
The exhibition contained materials from archaeological excavations that had been carrying out in Iviv from 1999 till 2011 by the employees of Research Centre “Rescue Archaeological Service” of the Institute of Archaeology of NAS in Ukraine. Most exhibits are presented from four objects: the parts of Fedorov St., 23-25 and 22-28, the territory at the corner of Krakivska and Virmenska St., and also the area of Mickiewicz Sq., 10.
The oldest finds, represented at the exhibition date back to Old Russian times, that is about the 12th century, and “the latest” belong to the 19th and 20th centuries.
At the exhibition you can have a look at the ceramics of different ages, metal utensils, which are over five hundred years old, various pipes and more. Among the most interesting findings there are religious things that probably date back to Old Russian times. It is about ancient Encolpion (compound breast crosses of Middle Ages, in which mostly relics of saints were contained), crosses and medallions.
However, the exhibition “Treasures of Underground City” is a kind of report on the activity of “Rescue Archaeological Service,” which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
